Strategic Corner: Gaining Your Edge at Ballard

The real edge here is logistical rather than tactical. This is one of the few Seattle facilities where you can plausibly walk or bike to your match from a dense residential neighborhood, play, and walk to a meal afterward — no parking calculus at either end. If you are trying to build a regular hitting habit, the facility you don't have to drive to is the one you will actually use.

The courts sit on open playfield ground a mile from Shilshole Bay, so a westerly off the Sound does reach them. It is milder than what you'll find at genuinely exposed waterfront courts, but on a breezy afternoon, check which end you want to start on.

Location, Access, and Amenities

The playfield is at NW 65th St and 15th Ave NW, one of the best-served transit corners in northwest Seattle — the 15th Ave NW and Market Street bus corridors both run close by, and the RapidRide D line is a short walk. Street parking in the surrounding residential blocks is the usual option and is easier here than closer to Ballard Avenue.

Restrooms are tied to school facilities and should not be counted on outside school hours.

The Neighborhood: Beyond the Baseline in Ballard

Ballard is one of Seattle's most complete neighborhoods for anything you'd want to do after a match. Ballard Avenue and Market Street are a short walk south, with a deep bench of coffee, breweries, and restaurants, plus the Ballard Farmers Market on Sundays. The Ballard Locks and Golden Gardens are both nearby if you want to make an afternoon of it.
